Over front pagewards the headline for the recent story on the upcoming Alabama US Senate Special Election informs us Democrat Doug Jones trails Republican Roy Moore by. 5. points. (45-50%) with more than two months to go before Election Day (Tuesday, December 12).
And, of course, the comment thread brims with snarls and snark about The Entire State of Alabama being made up crazies and cretins, and matter-of-fact declarations that Moore’s already won. Some significant percentage of Kosniacs appears to be made up of people who make Eeyore look like Norman Vincent Peale.
Again: 5. points. down. with more than two months of campaigning to go. And 1/4-1/3 (or more???) of people here are writing-off Doug Jones??? Geez.
By the way, a WAPO Story on Doug Jones: www.washingtonpost.com/…
_______________
In Tuesday’s Republican runoff Moore got around 255,000 votes. Alabama has more than 3 million registered voters. Yes, Moore won his contest with Luther Strange with around 8.5% of the total number of votes that could’ve been cast.
In the August Democratic Primary, Doug Jones won handily, but with only 109,131 votes. Anemic turnout for Dems.
The heartening news: If an Alabamian supported Roy Moore, then on Tuesday they were at the poll voting for him. In other words: On Tuesday Moore’s supporters turned out, enthusiastically, this week. None sat at home.
Moore’s more or less seen his ceiling. And it’s quite low. So if you can’t say something supportive of Doug Jones, could you at least stop writing him off before the general election campaign’s just getting started?
